Unhappy Meals: McD’s Recalls Thousands of Fitness Bands for Causing Burns to Kids
Posted on - Wednesday, September 21, 2016 under Child AccidentsMany kids and parents are not loving the latest product that McDonald’s has included with their Happy Meals. Fitbit-like fitness trackers which were until recently part of these kids meals have caused burns and serious skin irritation, leading to their recall by McD’s.
After the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission received more than 70 reports of iinjuries to children who wore “Step-It Fitness Bands” from Happy Meals, McDonald’s announced that it would stop distributing the bands. It then went further, in August recalling 29 million of the bands in the U.S. as well as 3.6 million of them in Canada.
Thousands of people are injured each year as the result of using a defective product like these fitness trackers. If you believe that you or a loved one have been injured by a defective product, the Georgia product liability attorneys at The Parian Law Firm, LLC have extensive experience representing people with products liability claims against some of the world’s largest manufacturers.
Products liability claims usually fall into one of three categories: (1) Claims for injuries caused by the defective design or unsafe condition of a product (more commonly called the “inherent flaw” case); (2) Claims for injuries caused by a manufacturing defect (usually occurs when a small number of products are defective due to a manufacturing or construction problem); and (3) Claims for injuries caused due to a manufacturer’s failure to display the appropriate warnings. Whatever the basis of your products liability claim, we can help you receive compensation for any injuries caused by a dangerous or defective consumer product.
