    Stryker Hip Implant Injuries

Posted on - Thursday, July 23, 2015 under Dangerous Drugs & Products, Medical Malpractice

Individuals who have suffered complications from a Stryker hip implant may have claims for compensation against the manufacturer of the device. Parian Law Firm, Georgia defective medical device lawyers serving clients nationwide, is investigating and pursuing claims on behalf of those injured by these dangerous hip implants.

The Food and Drug Administration approved two metal-on-metal hip implant devices manufactured by Stryker Orthopedics – Rejuvenate and ABG II – in 2008 and 2009. However, it didn’t take long for serious problems to be discovered with these devices. The metals in the implant were prone to corrosion and fretting that led to the release of metal debris into the body, damaging surrounding bone and tissue. This causes pain, swelling, and metal poisoning among other complications.

In response to these issues, Stryker issued a recall of both the Rejuvenate and ABG II models in 2012 “due to the potential for fretting and corrosion at the modular-neck junction which may result in ALTR (adverse local tissue reactions), as well as possible pain and/or swelling at or around the hip.”

Thereafter, a flurry of lawsuits began to be filed against Stryker on behalf of those who were harmed by the implants and who had to have additional and often complicated surgery to have the devices removed.

In November 2014, approximately 3,000 plaintiffs who had the defective devices implanted and who also had the devices removed entered into a settlement with Stryker pursuant to which Stryker agreed to pay almost $1.5 billion.

However, the settlement in that case only applies to patients whose hip implants failed prior to the settlement date of November 2, 2014. If your hip implant failed after that date, you are not subject to the settlement and may be able to pursue compensation from Stryker.

If you or a loved one has suffered complications from a failed Stryker hip implant, or if you have questions or concerns regarding your right to seek compensation, please give Parian Law Firm a call at (770) 727-5550 or chat live online with a member of our staff today.
