Gasoline Tanker Truck Driver Falls Asleep at Wheel

Posted on - Monday, January 26, 2015 under Truck Accidents

Tired Truck Driver Causes Trucking Accident

Luckily, no one was seriously injured when a gas tanker truck driver fell asleep at the wheel while traveling down Interstate 64 in Illinois.  The gas tanker truck was traveling down the interstate at 2:00 am when it entered the median separating the lanes of traffic and rolled over into the other lanes of traffic.   No other people were injured in the truck rollover accident except for the truck driver sustaining minor injuries.

Tanker Trucks Can Be More Dangerous Than Other Trucks

Tanker trucks are among the most dangerous on our interstates and roads.  When a tanker truck is involved in a trucking accident, not only is the size and weight of the truck relevant, but the contents of the cargo held in the tank could make the wreck even more dangerous.  There are strict regulations placed on tanker trailers by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.  Most of the trucking companies pulling tanker trailers follow those regulations; however, other times they are not followed and the results lead to catastrophic injuries or wrongful death.

The trucking company and every motorist that travels America’s interstates were lucky that no serious injuries or deaths were caused by this truck wreck.  Sleepy truck drivers, just like sleepy passenger car drivers, are a danger to all on the roadways.  While there are no regulations on passenger car drivers, there are hour of operation limits placed on truck drivers.  We must put our faith in truckers and trucking companies that those regulations are being followed.
