Georgia Catholic Priest Accused of Sexual Abuse

Roman Catholic Priest Accused of Abusing Boy in 1987-1988
Priest Already Served 10 Years for Other Abuse
A lawsuit was filed in Jasper County, South Carolina seeking money damages related to the Plaintiff’s years of sexual abuse at the hands of an already-convicted Catholic priest that once served the Archdiocese of Savannah. Sadly, this is one of the many stories of abuse that has plagued the Catholic Church in recent years. Pope Francis and the Vatican have acknowledged the failings of certain authoritative figures in the Church and condemned the heinous acts committed. The mere thought that men trusted by those they serve in their congregation prey upon the children of the their congregation is inexcusable and disgusting. Discovering that those charged with overseeing those priests knew of the alleged sexual complaints and did nothing about the abuse is even more unbearable. These disgusting men should be held accountable for their actions.

It is Time for the Georgia Legislature & Other States to Extend the Statute of Limitations for Sexual Abuse of Children by Clergy of Churches
Very few lawsuits in Georgia arise from the sexual abuse of a child by clergy. Why? The Georgia statute of limitations is too short. These innocent children lose their innocence at the hands of the clergy predators and, under current law, they must come forward within 5 years after they turn 18 years of age. In my opinion, those abused children are still children at 23 years of age. Who wants to come forward as the “abused kid” while in college? I cannot imagine the twist of emotions in a child’s body after being betrayed by someone so worthy of trust. It can years and decades to rationalize the harm caused. For that reason, Georgia and other states should follow states such as California and Hawaii that have an extended window for clergy abuse victims to bring claims.
