Bremen’s Road Work Is Picking Up—Here’s How to Drive Safely While Streets Are Being Paved

Posted on - Friday, June 20, 2025 under General, Safety Tips

If you live in Bremen, you’ve probably seen the signs—or the road crews themselves. The city recently
opened bids for a large street paving project to upgrade several local roads. It’s a much-needed
improvement, but if you’re behind the wheel while it’s going on, you’ll need to take some extra
precautions.

Fresh pavement, loose gravel, and large construction vehicles can turn an everyday drive into a
dangerous one if you’re not paying close attention. We’ve seen plenty of accidents happen in exactly
these kinds of conditions.

How to Stay Safe While Bremen Streets Get Repaved

  1. Watch for detours and signs.
It’s tempting to just follow your usual route, but if a road is closed or being worked on, don’t force it. Respect the detours and stay out of closed zones—even if it looks passable.
  2. Take it slow on fresh asphalt.
New pavement can be slick, especially when it’s still settling or hasn’t been fully marked. Go slower than usual and be careful with turns and sudden stops.
  3. Be extra careful around construction trucks.
They’re big, loud, and not as nimble as your car. Give them space to move, especially when backing up or turning. Don’t try to pass a paving crew unless you’re absolutely sure it’s safe and legal to do so.
  4. Expect the unexpected.
In paving zones, lanes might shift, markings might be missing, and loose gravel could pop up out of
nowhere. Assume the road might not behave the way it usually does.
  5. Don’t assume it’s your fault if there’s an accident.
If you’re involved in a crash in or near a paving zone, don’t rush to take the blame. There could be other factors at play—like missing signs, dangerous drop-offs, or mismanaged traffic patterns.
