Amtrak Train Slams Into Truck Stuck on Tracks

More Than 50 Amtrak Passengers Suffer Injuries in North Carolina Train Accident
A tractor trailer truck permitted to carry an overweight load got stuck on the train tracks near Halifax, North Carolina causing an Amtrak passenger train to slam into it. The engine car and a baggage car derailed in the collision. According to witnesses, the tractor trailer truck became stuck while attempting to make a turn over the railroad tracks. The truck driver escaped the vehicle prior to the train making impact.

More than 50 people on the Amtrak train were taken to local hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to minor. This particular train (the Amtrak “Carolinian”) originated in Charlotte, North Carolina and was on its way to New York City, New York. Local authorities and the Federal Railroad Administration are continuing to investigate the incident.
